Maya Angelou died today, at the age of 86 in her home in Salem-WInston. I was devastated to hear the news, as Ms. Angelou was not only one of my favorite writers, but also one of the most inspirational Humans to ever live on this planet. In middle school we read "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" and since that day the story has been forever imprinted in my head and heart.
Losing Ms. Angelou as an irreplaceable writer and creator is certainly saddening, but reminds us to celebrate her work. She accomplished almost everything she put her mind to. After dropping out of high school, Ms. Angelou pursued her passion, becoming a celebrated author and eventually securing a position as a Professor at Wake Forest. From there she continued to create meaningful poems and essays that impacted millions. Ms. Angelou is an inspiration for all of us who are too scared to chase our dreams, and she will forever be a model of positivity and true personal success. In honor of her I would like to share an article from USA Today highlighting 13 memorable and important quotes we all can use to improve our way of thinking. RIP Ms. Angelou.
