As I rest atop the high chair
Leaned up against the bar,
I see a woman.
Not just any woman but
One that is so damn beautiful that
It’s a damn shame she isn’t famous yet.
And I sit, and I stare, and I sip from
The glass that is atop the bar in front of me,
Sitting in its own pool of sweat.
And she stares back, quickly at first,
But at me none the less.
And I catch a quick glance, again
And as her green eyes lock into mine
And time freezes, just for a second,
I decide to look away.
And she does too.
And we go about our night,
Both uncertain on how the other feels,
Both too scared for introductions.
But the tension remains,
The want to feel somebody else
The desire to connect your soul with one another.
And it lasts until the bar closes,
When we each go our separate ways
Alone.
So we lay our heads on our pillow that night,
And think to each other-
“Fuck,
Why didn’t I say something”-
And ten years from now she will be married,
And I will be here, staring
At the girl across the bar staring at me
Wondering what it would be like
To be close again
Leaned up against the bar,
I see a woman.
Not just any woman but
One that is so damn beautiful that
It’s a damn shame she isn’t famous yet.
And I sit, and I stare, and I sip from
The glass that is atop the bar in front of me,
Sitting in its own pool of sweat.
